Here’s The Story behind the Change of Instagram Logo
The very popular and most powerful App “Instagram” announced a new look, inside and outside the app, on 11 of May 2016. From the beloved Polaroid-like camera logo, Instagram debuted its new look by replacing the old one with an updated rainbow-gradient icon.
The Instagram team has also refreshed the user interface with a much simpler, more determined design that supports people’s photos and videos glow.
When Instagram was initiated, it was a platform to simply edit and share pictures. Five years later, things have completely changed. Instagram is now a full-fledged community of interests where people from across the globe are sharing more photos and videos than ever before, using popular tools like Boomerang and layout, and connecting in fresh ways.
Supporting the change, the Instagram team came up with a fresh logo while staying true to Instragram’s spirit and heritage, which would represent Instragram’s full range of expression- Past, present and future.
Here’s what the team had to say “Brands, logos and products develop deep connections and associations with people, so you don’t just want to change them for the sake of novelty. But the Instagram icon and design was beginning to feel, well… not reflective of the community, and we thought we could make it better.”
ABOUT THE NEW LOOK OF INSTAGRAM
As we all know, Instagram is all about colorful photos and color is a huge part of the App, so does the new icon symbolize – the rainbow is a bridge into the color gradient. The new Instagram logo undeniably has more warmth and energy to complement the glyph.
According to the Instagram team, the previous icon proved to be a weak basis for an icon and therefore they had to figure out a new mark that could represent every feature and the soul of the App- Instagram. After a lot of refinement and alterations, the team finally landed on a glyph that still proposes a camera, but also sets the foundation for years to come.
Besides the change in logo, the team also reformed some popular features like Boomerang, Layout and Hyperlapse, these features also have a new look now. The newly designed look of the features better represents what the App offers to you.
Final words from the Instagram team:
“The evolution of the community has been inspiring, and we hope that we’ve captured some of the life, creativity, and optimism people bring to Instagram every day. Our hope is that people will see this app icon as a new creative spark — something to have fun with and make their own. We’re excited for where this will take us.”
